Hypnotherapy Is Particularly Effective For:
Chronic Pain
Acute pain is useful. It says, "I need special care to heal." Chronic pain is more like an overly sensitive smoke alarm that keeps going off, even though you've just taken a shower or cooked a meal.
Working in trance, we can quiet the alarm, help the body find new pathways to ease, and address any emotional pain that might underlie conditions like migraines, back pain, pelvic pain, IBS, and fibromyalgia.
Performance Anxiety
Test-taking, auditions, dating, public speaking, job interviews, oh my! If self-consciousness hijacks your ability to show up as yourself, hypnotherapy can help. In trance, you get to rehearse success and ease, neutralizing any associations or memories that trigger anxiety, and install new, supportive and confident internal responses.
Healing the Inner Child
Many adults carry an inner critic that was shaped in childhood. It's often harsh, relentless, and convinced that love has to be earned. Hypnotherapy offers direct access to the parts of you formed in those early experiences, allowing healing that can feel surprisingly fast compared to traditional talk therapy. We work to develop a warm, caring inner adult — a secure inner voice that can calm and gradually replace the critic.
Stress Relief, Grounding, and Mindfulness
Trance is, by its nature, a deeply restorative state. Regular hypnotherapy sessions can reduce chronic stress, build a consistent felt sense of calm and groundedness, and strengthen the mindfulness skills that help you stay centered when life is hard.
- Self-criticism and low self-esteem
- People-pleasing and codependency
- General and social anxiety
- Body shame and negative body image
- Setting effective boundaries
How Trance Works
What Happens in a Hypnotic State
In a hypnotic state, the conscious, analytical mind relaxes its grip. This isn't sleep, and it isn't loss of control — most people describe it as a focused, receptive state of deep relaxation, where the mind becomes more open to new ways of seeing and responding. In some ways, it's similar to psychedelic-assisted therapy, but safe and legal.
This relaxed and open state makes hypnotherapy uniquely powerful for changing beliefs and patterns that often can't be fully reached through insight alone.
Hypnotherapy is particularly beneficial for:
- Body memory that has no words
- Unconscious agreements we made in our families about who and how we were supposed to be
- Painful experiences our brains suppress to avoid fear or shame
In trance, we can work with these unconscious patterns and beliefs directly, gently, and at a pace that feels right for you.
The MFT Advantage
More Than Hypnosis Alone
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) with over twenty years of clinical experience, I bring a significantly broader toolkit.
If hypnosis alone isn't producing the results you're looking for, I can draw on attachment-based therapy, EMDR, parts work, somatic awareness, and self-compassion practices — without referring you elsewhere or starting over. You get the depth of hypnotherapy with the safety net of a full therapeutic relationship.
This matters especially for chronic pain, trauma-related work, and anyone whose presenting concerns are layered or long-standing.
